A Sherman resident held a suspect at gunpoint after the suspect allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle early Friday morning.

At about 2 a.m., Sherman Police received a call reporting a person pointing a gun at another person in the 1700 block of South Heritage Parkway. Sherman Police Sgt. D.M. Hampton said the man pointing the gun was the vehicle owner who saw a suspect appear to be trying to steal his truck.

“The victim was sitting in his living room watching TV and noticed somebody, and the dog started barking,” Hampton said. “He went out there and held him at gunpoint.”

While holding the suspect as gunpoint, the man was able to get the attention of his neighbor who called police. Before officers arrived on scene, the suspect fled. Hampton said no shots were fired, and the suspect didn’t take anything. A report was filed for burglary of a vehicle.
