Authorities say a Texas man died Monday morning after he entered the waters of Lake Texoma to solve an issue with his boat.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that 69-year-old Bob Garcia of Wichita Falls drowned after he swam below his boat and attempted to secure a loose anchor he dropped along the north shore of Wood Island. A statement released by OHP said Garcia entered the water near the rear of the vessel but never resurfaced.
Recovery teams were called to the area and used dragging equipment and sonar scanning devices to locate Garcia’s body, which was found roughly 20 yards from the shoreline and in six feet of water.
A representative of OHP said Garcia’s wife was present at the time of the incident and called for help. The representative said there was no clear indication as to what caused the drowning.
Members of the Army Corp of Engineers also assisted in the recovery effort.
