On top of a hill with views extending for miles, a one-of-kind house outside Sherman makes use of curves and angles to accentuate the sights.

The 4,112-square-foot home at 2031 Meadowlake Dr. is situated on a little more than six acres near the State Highway 289 and U.S. Highway 82 interchange. The house features three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a game room and a luxurious pool with multiple outdoor living areas.

Now looking to downsize, Joe and Phyllis Spears moved into the house in August 1981 and have been the sole owners of the property. Joe Spears referred to the style of the home as California contemporary; the design was based off a house created by a Californian architect, which the Spears found featured in a national magazine.

The Spearses have raised their children and grandchildren at this property, and their love of this home is evident by the home’s prime condition and quality materials used in its upkeep.

Lisa Carrillo, the listing real estate agent with Trinity Realty Group, said the house has quality craftsmanship throughout, and it makes use of many handcrafted features like the front door and grand spiral staircase inside.

“This is like a resort — a little haven,” Carrillo said.

Through the gated entrance, a circle drive runs in front of the house, which faces south. Walking past the well-manicured lawn and flower beds, an oversized mahogany door sets the elegant tone of the house. Leaded glass covers the door, sidelights and transom above.

Upon entry, the first feature that stands out are the floors. More than 2,000 square feet of the house is covered in shiny, white, Italian Carrara marble. To the right, the staircase curves to the second floor with a rotunda covered in California redwood extending past the ceiling.

The entry area leads to the open main living room. The tall ceiling angles down to the sunroom at the back. The space is flooded with natural light by the numerous windows with plantation shutters overlooking the back patio and pool. The room features a fireplace with bricks forming a curve design and a circle overlook to the wet bar behind the fireplace.

Connected to the living room, a circular designed library features curved built-in bookcases and the second redwood rotunda above. The game room, currently housing a pool table, is just off the library. A hallway opposite the staircase leads to the two downstairs bedrooms and a full bathroom with double sinks.

Past the formal dining room, which is connected to the living and entry rooms, a short hallway leads to the kitchen on the east side. The remodeled kitchen is spacious and has an excess of granite countertop space. The stove is on a large island and other features include double ovens and a built-in, oversized refrigerator. The countertop near the sink is on a half circle space with a series of six windows overlooking the backyard. The kitchen also has a connected breakfast nook and doors to the backyard. A butler’s pantry and laundry room with a full sink are located behind a door off the kitchen.

Going upstairs, a loft-like sitting room overlooks the main living room. Two exposed wooden trusses run the length of the space above. Behind a door off this area is the master bedroom suite. A sitting area inside the spacious bedroom has a treehouse-like feel as a semicircle wall, paneled with windows, looks out to a tall tree behind. The room has access to a backyard balcony with a staircase leading to the pool. The master bathroom is covered with the white marble and features a spalike bathtub, shower, double sinks and a built-in vanity.

Going outside, a grilling and dining area is shaded by a large tree. Another sitting area is covered and leads to the 14-foot-deep pool. A cabana is situated on the other side of the pool and has a sink and a bathroom with a shower. The fenced-in backyard and pool overlook the large green pasture below. The house also has a two-car garage and carport parking for two cars. A 30- by 45-foot shop is located several yards from the house.

Carrillo said her favorite aspect of the house is the view with the rolling landscape. She noted that as the house is situated on top a hill, so a nice breeze cools the backyard.

“It’s very unique — there’s not another home like it,” Carrillo said.

Phyllis Spears said the property provides views of gorgeous sunsets, and she noted the house is perfect for entertaining as evidenced by the several weddings and dozens of baby showers the Spearses have hosted at the home. She said she hopes a family buys the property and loves it like they have.

The house is listed for sale for $695,000.
