Rain showers were not enough to extinguish a vehicle that caught fire near the intersection U.S. Highway 75 and FM 1417 in Sherman Monday.
Sherman Fire-Rescue responded around noon to the scene, where a dark colored Ford pickup was stopped on the southbound shoulder of U.S. Highway 75, emitting smoke and flames from the engine block. Fire crews halted all southbound lanes of the freeway traffic as they extinguished the fire. Sherman Fire-Rescue officials weren’t immediately available to comment on what caused the fire. It was unclear whether anyone was inside the vehicle when it caught fire or if anyone was injured.
No other vehicles appeared to be involved in the fire.
Crews reopened a single lane of traffic after roughly 30 minutes.
