A Sherman man who was indicted in March on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of deadly conduct discharge of a firearm will be back in court on May 5. Russl Lamonte Childs, was set for a plea conference Thursday but the case was reset for May 4.

Childs was arrested in January in connection with a drive by shooting that happened on Dec. 26 in the 1300 block of East Cherry Street. The Cherry Street shooting injured no one. Police went to the home shortly after noon and found the house had been struck at least once by gunfire. Two people were on the porch when the shooting occurred, according to the police report. Childs was later found at an apartment complex in Denison.

Sherman attorney Jerome Oney represents Childs. Oney couldn’t be reached for comment.
