A man crossing U.S. Highway 82 was struck by a vehicle Saturday night and later died at the hospital.

At about 8:45 p.m., Department of Public Safety troopers were dispatched to investigate a crash on Highway 82 east of Sadler. DPS Staff Sgt. Mark Tackett said in a news release that 52-year-old Anthony Payne was crossing the highway when a westbound Toyota SUV struck him.

Mr. Payne was transported by helicopter to the Medical Center of Plano where he was pronounced dead at 6:31 a.m. Sunday. The release noted the SUV driver did not report any injuries.

Tackett said the SUV driver was not at fault, and he did stop after the collision to render aid. Mr. Payne’s last known address was at Lake Kiowa, but Tackett noted he has not lived there in awhile, so his current address was not yet known.
