After Sherman approved plans for two planned liquor stores on the east side of U.S. Highway 75, three more of the stores will be considered on the west side of the highway.

The Sherman Planning & Zoning Commission will consider plans for three separate liquor stores during its regular meeting Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall, 220 W. Mulberry St.

In January, the commission approved specific use permits and gave site plan approvals for two separate stores at 724 E. Highway 82 and 1922 N. Grand Avenue. The three new stores to be considered by the commission will be on FM 1417, Hwy. 75 and West Houston Street.

The store proposed for 1711 North FM 1417, suite 700, would be called Thumbs Up Liquor & Tobacco in a building owned by Spavinaw Development. The planned store at 2916 North U.S. Highway 75, suite 100, is to be called Reggis Liquor Store in a building owned by Tava Property LLC. The proposed store to be located at 1509 W. Houston St. did provide its planned name to the commission but would be operated by Mirza Baig in a building owned by Garland Sunset LLC.

Graham Mortgage Corp. is seeking a zone change and conceptual site plan approval for a 300-unit apartment complex in the 3800-4000 blocks of Quail Run Road and the 1100-1300 blocks of South FM 1417. The area is currently zoned as a retail business district and the owner of the property would like to change that to a multifamily residential district to allow the development of the apartments. The conceptual site plan for the apartment complex show it would consist of 10 buildings, each with a total of 300 apartments.

The commission will also consider a specific use permit and site plan approval for an addition to Sherman Storage 1 at 2105 S. FM 1417. The owner would like to build a 1,975-square-foot addition to its facility.

The commission’s board of adjustments will also consider a temporary use permit to allow the operation of a snow cone stand at 1330 W. Taylor St. If granted, the permit would allow the stand, which has been at that location since 1999, to operate from May through September this year.
