Children aren’t the only ones who need a little extra cheer this time of year. Those whose hair has grown gray and have wrinkles around the eyes need a little holiday magic as well and some area agencies are hoping to make that happen with a Santa for Seniors project sponsored by Texoma Home Instead Senior Care.

The program works like an angel tree and ornaments can be found in Sherman on trees at Belk, LandMark Bank and Nautilus Family Fitness. They are looking to serve around 142 senior citizens whose names have come from a number of agencies, including the Area Agency on Aging and local nursing homes. The gifts should be returned unwrapped to the location of the tree by Dec. 5.

Texoma Home Instead Senior Care Administrator Tim Dungan said the gifts being requested are very basic items like a pair of new house shoes or maybe a house coat or a sweater.

“They are just things to let these people, who are often shut-ins, know that they are not forgotten at this time of the year,” he said.

Dungan said there will be a wrapping party from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the Sherman Senior Center. He said people who want to help wrap up some Christmas joy for these senior citizens should just bring a pair of scissors and their holiday spirit and show up.
