Ana Pedro and Emily Estes were among local students receiving scholarships from the Sherman Rotary Club. Both earned a $4,000 scholarship - $1,000 per school year.


Pedro is the daughter of Damiano Pedro and Reyna Pedro and is a 2016 graduate of Sherman High School, carrying a 4.0 grade point average and earning her certification as a pharmacy technician. While in high school, she was president of SkillsUSA, vice president of H.O.S.A. and the Spanish Club, secretary for START, and a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. She will attend Austin College and pursue the pre-dental program with a major in biology and a minor in Spanish. She then plans to attend Baylor Dental School for her graduate work and plans to become an orthodontist and medical missionary.


Emily Estes, the daughter of Todd and Jennifer Estes of Sherman, graduated in May from the Texoma Christian School with a 4.0 grade point average. While there, she was a member of the National Society, was involved in Student Council, and was selected two consecutive years for the Texas All-State Choir. She will first attend Grayson College and then transfer to Austin College, majoring in pre-med.


Texoma Builders Association


The Texoma Builders Association recently presented four $500 scholarships to local high school graduates. All of the recipients will be pursuing a degree related to community development/improvement or the building industry.


Recipients of the scholarships were Meribeth Phillips and Hannah Walker, both of Sherman, Ty Johnson of Gunter and John Rudy of Savoy.
