SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Illinois — Scott D. "Gunner" Gundlach, formerly of Denison, was promoted to the rank of colonel on Feb. 1. He will soon be reassigned as commander of the 92nd Operations Group at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington. The 92nd Operations Group is a crucial part of the 92nd Air Refueling Wing, providing the aircrews that fly the wing’s KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft, providing air refueling, airlift and operational support.

Gundlach is the son of James "Jim" Gundlach and the late Rita Gundlach of Denison. He graduated from Denison High School in 1988, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engneering in 1992 from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado and entered the Air Force. He attended undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, earning his wings in 1993, and is a command pilot, having logged more than 2,900 hours in T-37, T-38, T-1A and KC-135 aircraft. He has served as an instructor pilot in Air Mobility Command and Air Education and Training Command and has commanded the 6th Operations Support Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. He has served as the executive assistant to the commander, U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base and was the deputy division chief, Strategy and Governance Division; strategy, poiilcy and logistics directorate, USTRANSCOM.
