WHITESBORO — With Thanksgiving just a few days away, Christmas is on its way. The folks in Whitesboro are planning a number of activities to celebrate the season. The first event happens from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 5 with the merchants in downtown welcoming patrons to an Old-Fashioned Christmas. The event will give people a chance to pick up an angel from the tree located at Lovejoy’s on Main Street and to donate peanut butter, dried beans, and coffee to the Ministerial Alliance’s food basket program.

At 6 p.m. the city’s Christmas tree will light up for the whole town to see and those on hand can stroll around with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. In addition, patrons can enter a free drawing to win a bike, a red wagon or other prizes. Those who don’t want to stroll can opt for an available carriage ride, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a number of the city’s merchants will be serving refreshments.

Whitesboro will continue to celebrate the season with a Tour of Homes on Dec. 14 and a Christmas parade at 6 p.m. on Dec. 14. The parade’s theme is "It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas" and there is no fee to enter the parade. The deadline to enter is Dec. 10.
