Backyard birds will be the topic of the Youth FIRST program on Feb. 1 at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. The 10 a.m. program is free and open to children ages 4 to 12. It will include hands-on nature activities with stories, crafts and games.

Backyard birds will be the topic of the Youth FIRST program on Feb. 1 at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. The 10 a.m. program is free and open to children ages 4 to 12. It will include hands-on nature activities with stories, crafts and games.


Children ages 4 to 7 must be accompanied by an adult and will meet in the audio visual classroom of the Friends of Hagerman Center at the refuge. Children ages 8 to 12 will meet in the refuge’s Visitor’s Center.


Reservations are preferred to aid in planning and can be made at www.friendsofhagerman.com/Youth or by calling the refuge at 903-786-2826. However, drop-ins will also be accepted.


Youth FIRST will meet the first Saturday of each month in 2014 with the exception of July. Program leaders are volunteers with teaching, youth leadership and naturalist experience. The program is funded by the Friends of Hagerman NWR group.
