Donald "Murt" and Carolyn Parks of Sherman were recently honored with a 50th wedding anniversary celebration. A family meal was held at Wendy’s Catfish in Cartwright, Okla., followed by a reception in their home. Hosts were Sonny and Sandy Berry of Luella, Beverly and Mike Grimmett and Freddie Berry, all of Hughes Springs, and DeDee Blakley of Sherman.

The Parkses married Nov. 29, 1963 in Leonard. Officiating was Howard Swinney, brother-in-law of Carolyn Parks. Attendants were Delores Williams of Dallas and Wayne Mac Ready of Leonard.


Carolyn Parks was born in Greenville, the daughter of Bob and Virtle Berry of Leonard. She graduated from Trenton High School and is retired after holding numerous jobs, the latest being a bookkeeper for 30 years for David Hodges in Lubbock. She enjoys music and sewing.


Donald Parks was born in Leonard, the son of Rita Bell and Ellis Parks and the step-son of Dee Sudderth Parks. He attended leonard schools and retired from Texas Instruments after 35 years of service, the last 30 as a glas blower and supervisor of the TI glass shop in Lubbockk and Houston. He served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam war and enjoys drag racing, hunting and traveling in the motor home.


The couple has lived in Sherman for 10 years and are members of Western Heights Church of Christ.
