Benny and Louise (Winkler) Elk of Denison will mark 65 years of marriage on Jan. 15. A reception is being planned for a later date.


The Elks were married Jan. 15, 1949 at the Bonham home of Jack King. Witnesses were Billy and Louise Wrenn, Smiley and Lena Hensly and Leon and Gene Hughes.


Louise Elk attended Savoy High School. She was employed at Johnson & Johnson for 26 years, retiring in 1993.


Benny Elk attended Savoy High School and served in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946. He was then employed for 32 years at the Safeway-Brookside plant, retiring in 1989.


Both are members of the Shannon Church of Christ in Sherman.


The Elks’ children are C.J. Meeks and her husband, Nathan, Alan Elk and his wife, Dena, Rhonda Stephens-Cox and her husband, Sparky, and the late Phillip Elk. There are four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
