Painters By Choice

Painters By Choice

TOM BEAN — The Painters By Choice group will meet this Saturday at the Tom Bean Methodist Church. Doors will open at 8:15 a.m. and the session is open to all painters and anyone who wishes to learn to paint.

This month’s teacher will be Patricia Hamilton who began painting as a way to keep her hand busy after quitting smoking. Her first and primary medium is acrylics, but she has also worked with colored pencils, pastels, watercolor and Genesis. She is a member of the Society of Decorative Painters and the Yellow Rose chapter, is a past charter member of the Wildflowers of Texoma, and co-founded the Creative Artist of Texas chapter. Among those who have instructed her are Helen Cavin, Helan Barrick, Linda Wise and Maureen McNaughton.

"I quickly learned it was more rewarding to hold a paint brush instead of a cigarette," explains Hamilton. "I was intrigued by the fact that I did not have to draw the design myself. I was no artist and actually made lousy stick people. I found out where to take classes locally and signed up almost immediately and have been hooked every since … I love to teach and with each project taught, I try to introduce something new I have learned from another decorative painter. My biggest fans are my husband, Ron, and our three daughters and seven grandchildren. Without their support, I would not be able to lose myself in my own little world of painting."
