While many people may be apt to take this weekend to rest after all of the Fourth of July festivities that took place in Texoma over the past week, some may be looking for more family-friendly fun. From a rodeo to a Christmas in July event and another touch-a-truck event, this weekend will have plenty of activities for families to choose from. If you are looking for more entertainment, this weekend the WinStar World Casino will be having a comedy show and Choctaw Casino and Resort will have a concert. Here are five events to fill the post Fourth of July weekend.


1. Barrell races and more


The Whitesboro Riding Club will have its 60th annual rodeo this weekend. Gates open at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 35 Noland Road in Whitesboro. There will be fireworks on both nights. Saturday night, the riding club will announce its queen and a princess will be crowned. A buckaroo and buckarette will also be crowned that night. 2. Christmas every six months


Sherman’s annual “Christmas in July” festival will be held this weekend. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in downtown Sherman. This children’s festival is fun for all ages, but best for those under the age of 12. There will be a bicycle parade around the Grayson County Courthouse square. There will be a lot of free crafts and activity booths. There will also be live entertainment. Santa will be there on vacation to greet kids of all ages. A Hawaiian shirt contest will be held on the patio at Old Iron Post.


3. Touch-a-truck


Pottsboro Kids Club will host a “Big Kid Show-n-Tell For The Little Kids Car Show” at 105 Cardinal Lane, in Pottsboro. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. 4. An evening with Bill Maher


Comedian Bill Maher will be in Texoma this weekend. Catch his show, “An Evening with Bill Maher,” from his live stand-up tour Friday at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.


5. Ready to Get Rowdy


For those looking for some live country music, Choctaw Casino and Resort will have the Grammy award winning “Redneck Woman” on site this weekend. Gretchen Wilson and Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band will be performing Saturday in Durant, Oklahoma. The show starts at 7 p.m. The doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets start at $30 and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.
