It is Memorial Day weekend and it is set to be a jam packed one on in Texoma. For the last weekend in May, there will be a concert, two graduations, a Memorial Day parade ceremony, and Durant, Oklahoma, will also be having its annual Magnolia Festival. All of these events will be outside and all of these events are family friendly. Here are five events to fill Memorial Day weekend.

1. Summer concert kick off

Music on Main kicks off this week. The Texoma Gospel Saints will be the first headliners for the free summer concert series. The performance starts at 7 p.m. at Heritage Park in Denison and there will be food trucks, vendors and retail establishments open along Main Street in Denison. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. 2. Commencements

Students all around the nation are gearing up for high school graduations. This weekend students at Sherman High School and Denison High School will be making their way across the stage at the schools respective stadiums. Sherman’s graduation ceremony is at 9 a.m. at Bearcat Stadium and Denison’s is at 8 p.m. at Munson Stadium.

3. Memorial Day parade

The Denison annual Memorial Day parade will pay tribute to fallen American service heroes. The parade will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in downtown Denison. At a reception preceding the event, all medal recipients and all military personnel will be honored. Floats at the parade will be judged, and an award for the best representation of the theme will be given. Last year’s parade included a caravan of military vehicles as well as floats from Grayson College, local VFW and Ride For the Vets posts, local churches and service organizations and more. 4. Remember those who served

VFW Post 2772 in Sherman will be honoring veterans during its annual Memorial Day program at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. The service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday in the veteran’s field. Flags will be placed on the graves Saturday. Patrons can come and honor family, friends and the family of friends who have died while serving the country.

5. Festival of the Magnolia

The Magnolia Festival of Oklahoma always takes the time to recognize veterans with a fireworks display on the first day of the weekend event. Along with a carnival, vendors arena, art exhibits and turtle races, the event held at Choctaw Event Center in Durant, Oklahoma, hangs on the tail end of the 77th annual Durant Riding Club Magnolia Rodeo, which will be held May 25-26. The second annual Magnolia Festival will be held May 25 through June 3. For more information, visit the Magnolia Festival Facebook page.
