Local author Alan Burton will be signing copies of his latest book from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, at the flagship Half Price Books in Dallas, 5803 E. Northwest Highway.

Burton will sign “Squib-Kick It To a Fat Guy…and 699 more memorable quotes from the playbook of Coach Mike Leach.” The book is a collection of quotes from the colorful Washington State coach (and former Texas Tech coach). Barry Switzer, former Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys coach, contributed the foreword.

When asked about the book at the Pac-12 media days in Hollywood, Leach quipped: “I haven’t read the whole thing – I’ve read parts of it. It’s kind of nice to have it. I usually remember the situation and setting. It’s sort of a scrapbook to me, it’s helpful to remember. I don’t know if it’s of any value to anybody else.’’

Included are chapters on Leach’s dismissal at Tech, his hiring at Washington State, the Texas A&M Aggies and the origin of the coach’s famous “fat little girlfriends’’ quote.

“Squib-Kick” is distributed by Washington State University Press and is also available through most national online booksellers.

In October, Burton was among the authors featured at the first-ever Lubbock Book Festival. He is the author of six books.

A Sherman native, Burton is special assistant to the president-director of university communications at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
