It is New Year’s weekend and Texoma has plenty of ways to celebrate the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018. This weekend will be the final opportunities to check out the Holiday Lights at Loy Lake in Denison, but there will be a lot more opportunities to look at holiday lights at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. The music group responsible for the resurgence of line dancing in America will be two stepping at Choctaw Casino this weekend. Area residents can also roll in the new year at Sherman Skateland. Eisenhower State Park is also having an event that will help people spend their New Year’s Day getting some exercise. So no matter what kind of entertainment residents are seeking, Texoma has five events to help fill this New Year’s weekend.


1. 12 Days of Christmas


This annual holiday lights display changes every year and this year features all LED lights. Turn on some holiday tunes like the “12 Days of Christmas” and take one final ride through Loy Lake near Frontier Village located at 111 RC Vaughan Road in Denison. Holiday Lights at Loy Lake opens at 5:30 p.m. daily and will be open until New Year’s.


2. Winter Wonderland


If you do not mind taking a short trip into the Metroplex, the Magical Winter Lights display at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie will be open until Jan. 7. The park opens at 5 p.m. each night and tickets start at $21 for adults, are $13 for children between 4-12 and seniors 65 and older, and free for children under 4. Wristbands are good for unlimited carnival rides. There will also be acrobatic performances, dinosaur rides for children and a full-sized food court.


3. Boot Scootin’ Boogie


A best-selling country duo Brooks and Dunn will help Texoma countdown the new year at Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant, Oklahoma. Brooks and Dunn will take the stage at the Grand Theater at the casino at 8 p.m. Sunday evening. The group has 23 career chart-topping hits and have collected more than 80 industry awards. 4. Skating in the new year


Sherman Skateland is hosting a special skating session for those who would like to bring in the new year on skates. The indoor rink will be open from 8 p.m. Sunday until 1 a.m. Monday. The first 18 skaters through the door will receive a door prize. Admission is $12 and includes skates rental, a hot dog and small drink. 5. New Year’s hiking


Eisenhower State Park in Denison wants to help people start the year off by getting active and enjoying the outdoors. The park will host its “First Day Hike” from 2-3:30 p.m. Monday. Whether you’re seeking adventure, reconnecting with friends and family, needing to relax, or reaching fitness goals, there’s nothing like a good walk through the woods to help get you out and get you motivated.
