There is no getting away from the holiday spirit this weekend in Texoma. There will be plenty of opportunities for holiday themed entertainment this weekend in preparation of the big day in just over two weeks. For some weekend fun, check out the current production at the Finley Theater in Sherman, a popular holiday play at Denison Parks and Rec, a holiday themed bazaar at Midway Mall, and a country Christmas show at The Rialto. Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge will also be taking on an interesting topic during its second Saturday program. Here are five weekend events for a cold winter weekend.

1. Ralphie's Christmas

The winter show for the Sherman Community Players is “A Christmas Story.” Telling the story of Ralphie Parker's ninth Christmas, the play opened the first weekend of December and will continue showing for the next two weekends. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets can be purchased at scptheater.org or by calling 903-892-8818 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Adults tickets are $16 and students tickets are $10.

2. Bah Humbug!

Denison Parks and Recreation will be putting on the Hamstead Stage Production, “A Christmas Carol” on Friday at the Senior Center, 531 W. Chestnut St. Charles Dickens' book “A Christmas Carol” is a timeless story with a universal message about the true spirit of the holiday season and the importance of friends and family. The tale follows the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge and his clerk, Bob Cratchit, during a particularly difficult Christmas season. Through visits from three spirits, Scrooge learns the true meaning of helping his fellow man, and that there is no time like the present to become a better person. The production will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and the event is recommended for children ages 5 and older.

3. Holiday sales

Midway Mall is inviting people to its expo hall Saturday for a holiday bazaar. The sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4800 Texoma Parkway in Sherman. The holiday bazaar is a one-stop shop for all of your holiday gifts. Stop by this year to find unique gifts to put under the tree.

4. Froggie life

Grayson College Biology Professor Michael Keck wants people to understand the life of frogs. The second Saturday program at Hagerman will be “The sex life of frogs around the world.” The program will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at 6465 Refuge Rd. in Sherman. Among frog species, tremendous variation exists in reproduction and development. Keck will discuss the typical reproductive patterns of frogs from the United States and contrast them with various groups of frogs from other parts of the world, especially the tropics, additionally including, some of the more bizarre examples of frog reproduction and development.

5. Sparkle and shine

The Shawnda Raines Entertainment group will be putting on its holiday show this weekend. The theme of the performance is, “Country Christmas” and it will be held at 7:30 p.m. at The Rialto Theater in Denison located at 424 W. Main St. in Denison.
