A pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday will once again be sponsored by local churches to kick off Denison’s fall festival. The breakfast will be held at Heritage Park in the 300 block of West Main.
Sponsoring churches include First Presbyterian, Parkside Baptist, Waples Methodist, and Park Avenue Church of Christ. All proceeds will benefit the outreach efforts of the Grayson County Shelter, Helping Hands and the Ministerial Alliance. Tickets are $6 and may be bought on site Saturday morning or at a sponsoring church in advance.
The breakfast, provided by local churches, has been a mainstay of the festival for well over 15 years.
“We meet during the year to plan this event that it utilizes many volunteers and has several moving parts,” said Todd Catteau, preaching minister at Park Avenue Church of Christ. “The event has really grown. Last year, we served nearly 1,000 persons, and we expect to feed at least that many again this year.
“The breakfast gives the churches involved an opportunity to unite around our shared Christian values and to implement them in ways that will benefit our community and the outreach ministries we support.
“We enjoy working with our partners in this effort, getting to know and appreciate one another, and contributing to the outreach ministries we support. In addition to serving those attending the festival, many of the vendors and volunteers start their day with us, which we always enjoy.”
The pancakes, served with sausage, come hot off the griddle in the park. In the event of rain, the breakfast will be held at Waples Memorial Methodist Church at 830 E. Main in Denison.
