Labor Day weekend is all about getting out of the house and enjoying not having to do any labor. This weekend there will be plenty of opportunities to do just that. From America’s greatest pastime to enjoying a tribute performance to one of everyone’s favorite bands, here are five events for this Labor Day weekend.


1. Let’s get ready for some football!


It’s football season once again and Denison wants the community to be excited about it. The first community tailgating event for the Denison High Yellow Jackets’ first home game is Friday from 5-6:30 p.m. The event at Forest Park will be the first of many home game tailgates held this year.


2. Labor Day ready


The third annual Fittest Choctaw 2017 Labor Day Festival will be held Saturday. The wellness festival will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Choctaw Wellness Center, 3753 Enterprise Drive, Durant, Oklahoma. This competition will consist of men’s and women’s divisions in teens, open, masters and legends age brackets. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division. There will also be cast awards.


3. Early morning run


The Breaking the Chains 5000 (5K & Fun Run) will be held a Natural Springs Park in Anna this year. The 5K will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and parking is available at Sue E. Rattan Elementary, 1221 S. Ferguson Parkway, in Anna. Packet pickup is at 8:15 a.m. The 5K is $30 on registration day and $25 before that. The registration includes a T-shirt and there will be awards for overall male and female, overall master male and female, runners 12 and under and others.


4. Bull riding champions


Professional bull riders will be taking over Texoma this weekend. And the Professional Bull Riders — Built Ford Tough Series has brought them here. The event will be held at 6:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Tickets are still available. To purchase a ticket, visit www.ticketmaster.com.


5. Hello, Goodbye


The Beatles are coming to town. Well, a Beatles tribute band will be in Denison this weekend. Yesterday: A Tribute to the Beatles, featuring a special set in celebration of the 50th anniversary of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” will be playing at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Rialto Theater, 424 W. Main St., Denison.
