F.M. 1417 and S.H. 11 intersection is bad news

I moved to Grayson County in 1991. I travel through the intersection of S.H. 11 and F.M. 1417 almost every day of the week.

Since 1991, I have seen many wrecks at this intersection and there were many wrecks that I did not see. I do not know how many people have died and been injured at this intersection, but the figures are very high. Many vehicles have been damaged and destroyed also.

Yellow blinking lights were installed last year by the highway department, but this has failed to cure the problem. Installing a red light or a possible design change in the intersection could be the answer in saving lives and property in the future. The next wreck could be you or a loved one.

Unless and until TxDOT authorizes construction to extend FM1410 north to SH56, and build an overpass and interchange at the SH11 intersection in the process, it's gonna be the same. All I can tell you is to slow down & look out for the other guy. To be honest, I'm not sure how far down in the priority list such a project would be.

At this point anything that can be done to make that intersection safer would be a blessing!!!!! One of my close friends was killed there 6-24-09 and you could see him and the other gentelman that was killed with him just fine from either direction. You can play the blame game all day and get no where. We lost 2 of Gods best men there and have 2 injured that will have to live the rest of their lives remember that day. To the man that hit them....may God have mercy on your soul.

I believe that a red light is in order for the intersection. I have seen many accidents there. It is true that all are drivers fault. Then again aren't all accidents drivers fault?

The solution to the problem is better drivers. You can't put up enough safety items to stop someone who isn't paying attention. You just can't idiot proof it. That intersection is nice and wide open for people to see if they open up their eyes. If it is changed all that will change is the type of accident that will happen but it won't reduce them.
