Dorchester Grain under investigation

BY JONATHAN CANNON

HERALD DEMOCRAT

SHERMAN -- Things are quieter at the seven Dorchester Grain facilities in Texoma recently, after their license to operate was suspended.

Bryan Black, spokesman for the Texas Department of Agriculture, said the business is under investigation, after an inspector discovered "some issues on his (annual) inspection" on Nov. 4.

Black said he could not comment further on the ongoing investigation, but described the situation as a "very serious case." Dorchester Grain Manager David Smith declined to comment on the investigation.

Black said all the companies facilities will remained closed to incoming or outgoing products until the department has completed its investigation.

"What our job is, is to safeguard Texas farmers and ranchers, and we're going to do everything in our power to make sure that their assets are protected," Black said.

He encouraged producers who have questions or concerns should contact E.W. Wesley or Gary Steward at 214-631-0265.

Feed Store : 12/10/2009
My only question is, "why would anyone want to do business with the feedstore part of this company?" They are all owned and operated by the same guy. This shouldn't come as a surprise to any of us that have had any dealings with Dorchester.

would like more info : 11/24/2009
a lot of us would like more information as to what is going on here. there are a lot of people still waiting to be paid for their crops. farmers are not the only ones hurt by this. the people the farmers rent the land that they farm from are waiting for their money. Many of these people are elderly people who need their farm income for survival. I can only say that if this was an intentional crime, SHAME ON YOU!

waiting for money

minor clarification : 11/20/2009
This only affects the grain elevator portion of the business. The feed stores owned and operated under the same name are still open.

Inspectors doing their JOB! : 11/20/2009
TO be praised for doing a great job. So many inspectors of restaurants, jails, septics, homes, etc - are just concernded about getting a paycheck. Not the actual JOB they are suppose to do.
Thank you

Doing Great.
