Area marching bands compete in weekend contests
Area high school bands competed in their district competitions over the weekend. Schools that received a 1 during the competition will advance to their area contests contest next weekend.
While many schools enjoyed repeated success this year, S&S Consolidated High School Band earned a 1 rating for the first time in its history.
Other areas high schools that will advance are: Bells, Denison, Gunter, Howe, Pottsboro, Sherman, Tom Bean, Whitesboro and Whitewright.

I just want to say congrats to the SHS Colorguard for getting best guard in the Plano East Marching Invitational. I know that's something you had been working very hard for, you deserve it!! Good luck at Area.

This is the ninth (9) year in a row that the Whitesboro Bearcat band has received a '1' rating. Way to go Bearcat Band!!

This article is not quite correct. This year, only 1A, 2A, and 4A bands continue on into the State marching contest. Next year, the 3A and 5A bands will continue, but for this year they are through. I have often asked why this plan is in effect and have never been given a good answer other than cost. If it were and athletic event, they would be continuing on. Not only would they be continuing on, but the UIL Committees would be trying to find ways of getting more teams into the playoff system. One can only hope that someday all things will be equal.

I want to say I am proud of each and every band member at Pottsboro High School. I know just how hard they have worked and the hours that they have put in to make it that far. I know we all wish you well on Saturday at area. I will be there in person to cheer you on.
