Visions of Sugarplums is a non-profit organization that provides breakfast and lunch food during extended school breaks to students who qualify for the free or reduced-cost meal program in the Pottsboro Independent School District. Contributions to VOS are tax-deductible.

This Christmas, about 160 children and teens in the Pottsboro Independent School District have registered to receive assistance.

VOS provided 11,538 meals to children in need this past summer; the organization supplies about 120 backpack snacks each weekend to students the school counselors have identified as being in particular need.

VOS is located in Preston Plaza in Pottsboro.

Because VOS makes every effort to purchase only food with the money given to the organization, the following essential non-food items are at the top of our wish list:

Cash designated for utility payments (about $25 monthly); 18-gallon plastic storage containers; gallon-size zip-close freezer bags; toilet paper; paper towels; liquid soap; all-purpose cleaners for floor, bathroom, and windows; white or pastel copy paper -- 8.5x11.

VOS is glad to receive any non-perishable food but has special need of:

Powdered milk; peanut butter; canned soup; canned meat; canned fruit and vegetables; dry cereal and instant oatmeal; 64 oz. bottles of apple and grape juice; canned chili; non-refrigerated pudding cups; vanilla wafers; jelly; single-serving packets of macaroni and cheese; single-serving fruit cups and applesauce; single-serving cans of tuna and meat; single-serving containers of vegetables; single-servings of instant breakfast.

Cash gifts are also very much appreciated.
