Sherman Police make arrest in armed robbery case

BY MARY JANE FARMER

HERALD DEMOCRAT

The lone suspect in Thursday night's armed robbery of a Sherman convenience store is in Grayson County Jail, after being arrested Friday by Sherman Police.

Michael Clark Nealon, 23, of Whitesboro is facing felony charges of aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, with bail set at a total of $150,000. Since being jailed, authorities have served two new warrants charging him with motion to revoke probation on previous convictions of robbery and unauthorized use of vehicle. There is no bond allowed on those two counts.

Sherman Police Sgt. Bruce Dawsey said late Thursday night that a lone man entered a convenience store on south Travis. He wore a gray ski mask and carried a handgun, which he used to persuade the clerk to hand over cash from the register drawer. The robber then ran north on Crockett, where patrol officers searched for him for hours, unsuccessfully.

Sherman police Detective James Harris led the resulting investigation, which led to Nealon's arrest mid-afternoon Friday.

Grayson County court records show that Nealon was on probation after pleading guilty earlier this year to an armed robbery at another Sherman convenience store, the Lone Star store on Sunset. He also pleaded guilty to a state-jail felony Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle charge.

Court documents on the robbery conviction, filed by Sherman police Officer Riley Day, state that Nealon entered the store on April 28, pointed a handgun at the clerk, and demanded money from the cash register. After getting the cash, he was seen running west from the store.

Harris was the lead detective in that incident, as well. The court papers state that Nealon was wearing a black and white cap, a dark-colored bandana over his face, and a red sweatshirt.

Someone failed this Kid : 11/15/2009
This Moron has a Crack addiction so when he runs out of cash he robs stores and steals cars. He needed help but he didn't want it so now he will spend a good 25 years of his life in prison where he will learn how to break other laws.. His chance to straighten up has come and gone. I have pitty for this kid but only because someone somewhere did a poor job raising this kid.

Put Him AWAY! : 11/15/2009
Gee, sounds like this REPEAT felon has really learned his lesson! If you have any shred of decency, how in the heck can you get busted for this in April and then, on probation, turn right around and do it again? Who knows what this moron has done that he did NOT get caught for in between. Hide and watch, some local "judge" will slap his wrist, turn him loose, and he will do it again! Hey judge, please do as James Harris did and DO YOUR JOB and protect the public from threats like this before he gets high and kills some innocent store clerk! I wish that store clerk would have pulled a .45 out and put one in this sorry sack's head! The world would have been a better place!
