SHERMAN -- April Fool's Day started off without much laughter for a man whose car got smashed by a train at around 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department said dispatchers received a call seeking assistance at about that time from a man who said his car was stuck on the track and he didn't know what to do.
"I am scared and I am lost and I am stranded on a railroad track," the man could be heard telling the dispatcher on a recording of the 911 call.
"I took the wrong turn somewhere and I am so lost," he continued.
When the dispatcher asked him to look around and tell her what he could see, he said, "railroad tracks and some woods."
"Were you on a main highway at some point?" she asked.
He replied that he was and she asked him to tell her what he saw.
Then he started talking about a train.
"There is a train coming and I am gonna ... I am gonna get killed," the man said in a voice that sounded somewhere between confused and sleepy.
"She told him to get out of the car, and he did," Dawsey said.
Then the dispatcher tried to continue finding out the man's location.
"Where did you come from?" she asked.
"Dallas, Texas," he responded.
"What is your name?" she asked.
"There goes my car," he answered.
She asked if something had hit his car.
"Yep, it's gonna hit real quick ... It's gone."
A few seconds later, a loud screeching noise started and he continued to say, "Yep, it's gone."
Dawsey said the dispatchers then received a call from the train's drivers saying it had struck a car.
Officers arrived at the scene on Howe Drive, south of F.M. 1417 and west of U.S. Highway 75, and found the car carnage as well as a man they suspected might be intoxicated. The train, Dawsey said, had pushed the car several hundred feet down the track. He said officers had the man, identified as Jeff Sabold, 46, perform field sobriety test and then arrested him. He was booked into the Grayson County Jail.
Dawsey said he didn't have any information on the amount of damage to Sabold's 2000 Ferrari. The train, Dawsey said, did not derail. Dawsey said it is unclear, at this point, if the man will face any additional charges stemming from the wreck.
Sabold is listed on the company Web site as owner of Automotive Concepts, a luxury car service company in Carrollton.

Dispatcher and Ferrari Driver : 4/8/2009
I personally know the dispatcher, she handled this case perfectly. Very professional, saved the drivers life. I hope he realizes how close he came to dying. I pray that he never picks up another drink. This is a lesson for all. I hope he is reading this. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. When you make choices in life, you are a mirror image to all. It pays to not make bad choices. What was this driver thinking??? This was so STUPID. Think first before you find yourself on a railroad track. It would have been cheaper to call a cab. Sadly, the Ferrari's next home is in a salvage yard somewhere. I hope the owner has learned his lesson, this is a valuable lesson. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!!!

911 dispatcher and ferrari driver : 4/6/2009
How about a round of applause for the 911 dipatcher that listened to what he had to say, believed him and gave him advice to get out of the car!!! I am totally against drunk driving and acting like a complete idiot, but she probably saved his life. I don't know how anyone could find driving intoxicated enough to not know where you are or how you got to where you are humorous. I hope he doesn't drink and drive again and cross the median to meet someone you know head on. Hopefully he realizes he has quite possibly been given a second chance at life and will be more responsible!!

By the looks of the picture, the Ferrari was playing Chicken with the train, and lost! How did the guy get on the tracks in the first place?

Stupid : 4/3/2009
I heard that the man driving the Ferrari told the Railroad workers that he did this on purpose for the insurance money. I think i would have gone a different route, considering he knows has to pay that insurance money to repair the damage done to the train and etc. But, i have to agree with "D.M." this is quite hysterical!

The Ferrari is sitting in an impound lot at 500 block of east King in Sherman . . It'll make you sick to look at it.

The 2000 Ferrari : 4/2/2009
After a quick phone call, the company Automotive Concepts is a repair facility for luxury cars. Tim couldn't give me a value price on the smashed 2000 Ferrari. Their phone number in Carrollton is: 972-407-9935. This was a very interesting phone call, he wasn't interested in talking with me. Must be due to embarassment.

Considering there were no injuries, and the train didn't derail, that was quite comical.
