Deana Patterson, elections clerk for the county, said those who want to run for county office have until Jan. 4 to file a designation of campaign treasurer with the county clerk's office, unless the office sought is a statewide office, in which case the designation must be filed with the secretary of state's office. Each candidate must also file an application with the head of the political party the candidate plans to adopt as his or her own.
In Grayson County, David Gibson is the head of the Republican Party and may be reached at 903-818-0078. Robert Shannon is the head of the Democratic Party and may be reached at 972-832-3250.
Offices up for grabs include the bench in the 397th state District Court. Republican Brian Gary was appointed to that position when the court was created, but now he must run for his first full term. So far, no one has filed to run against Gary.
Grayson County Judge Drue Bynum's position is also up for election. Bynum, a Republican, seeks his second term in the office.
So far two Democrats have filed to see who will get to run against Bynum in the Fall. Greg Middents, a long-time justice of the peace in the county, seeks a return to politics with a win as county judge. Glenn Melancon, who has run unsuccessfully twice against U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall, R-Texas, would also like the county judge job.
Judges James Henderson, County Court-at-law Court No. 1, and Carol Siebman, County Court-at-law No. 2, must both stand for election this year. Henderson thus far has drawn no opponent. However, Sherman attorney Jack McGowen has filed to run against Siebman in the Republican primary.
District Clerk Tracy Powers is also up for re-election. So far, three people have filed to become the Republican Party nominee for the district clerk's spot, and none of them is Powers. Kathy Aaron, Kelly Clark Ashmore and Michele Guedea have all filed campaign treasurer designations. No one has filed to become the Democratic Party's nominee.
County Clerk Wilma Bush is also up for nomination and election in 2010. So far, no one has indicated a desire to run against the Republican.
Commissioners David Whitlock, Precinct 2, and Gene Short, Precinct 4, both Republicans, are also up for election in 2010. Martin McLain filed to run against Whitlock in the Republican primary.
Short, a commissioner for more than 20 years, has indicated he will not run for the position in 2010. Bart Lawrence and Mike Springer, both Republicans, have filed campaign treasurer designations showing they would each like to be county commissioner for Precinct 4.
County Treasurer Virginia Hughes has also held her job for more than 20 years. So far, Hughes, a Democrat, has drawn no opponent in the primary.
Justices of the Peace James Harris, Precinct 2, and Mike Reeves, Precinct 3, are also up for election. No one has filed a treasurer designee in those races.

Wow... Does anybody have a clue???? If you don't vote don't gripe. If you got caught up in the corruption, how did you get there? We need people that know what is going on and have the right type of experience, not just someone that thinks they can learn as they go along, beacuse that is what is wrong with the local government now. Everbody wants to run to change things to their way of thinking, and will promise anything to get elected, but everyone has to answer to someone, so it can't always be their way. I think that anyone running that has any next of kin in any office should be considered a "conflict of interest" and should not be able to run. We have a great county here, it needs to be refreshed. Vote with KNOWLEDGE, study each candidate and see what they can really offer.

If you look at all the commentary from the last year regarding the hot topics the comments always range around 20 or 30 people. It seems to me that these arethe same 20 unhappy, bored, armed chair quarterbacks. They have no solutions just alot gripes. People just remember just because it is written doesn't make it true.

Call me old school but I do not like all these hateful comments. Those that hide their names need to look into the mirror themselve. I am not sure they would like what they see.
I had a man come to my door a few years back asking for my vote. In my 30 years of voting, that has never happpened. I was impressed.
Lets all get back to grass roots and stop all this hate.

Have you tried contacting an “investigative reporter” on one of the Dallas TV channels with your charges? I know they are smacking their lips to get any dirt on either the Republican or Democratic people in office. Do you remember the guy the killed the people south of Sherman in a truck-car wreck. I remember the County Attorney was trying to settle the case by granting probation (cheapest way to settle) when the Dallas media got on the plea. Suddenly there was a trial and convection. GET THE MEDIA INVOLVED!

Good luck. I don't know anything except that what you speak of does happen, and to alot of people. I can't help but think of the news of corruption in Afganistan as well as all over the world. Being blindly loyal to a particular party closes the mind of the masses so they can be easily led.
I hope for Justice
2 cents : 1/6/2010
Conservative/independent: No offense but your comments are republican. To defend either party is foolish. Common people will always be common. Some will be lucky or born rich and others will lie, cheat and steal to make it. This will not change. If you find yourself favoring a particular group, you will be manipulated by someone.
Be aware that some who post here are actually the very politicians being discussed. Things won't change because corporations won't allow it. The health care bill would be in place if not for the insurance industry.(I don't know if that is good/bad or somewhere in between. An industry that was created to spread the burden of a catastrophe so damage could be shared. Is this working? If the wealth was FAIRLY distributed so many serious problems could be resolved. 'We could all be drinking that rainbow stew'. I don't want to offend any common citizen. It would be nice to have some qualified canidates to rally around. By the way, it would not be a good idea to share your name in one of these forums. When the lions single out a wildebeast, it dies.

Grayson County is in a mess! Democrat or Republican there is wrong doing in both parties. The problem is the people of today. They are mean spirited and have their own agenda's. They have no respect for anyone except the people that can get them what they want and those people all hang together. I have worked in the Legal Community for sometime and I see the wrong doings daily. We the people of Grayson County need to do research on the candidates running for office in 2010. Pay attention to who is supporting these people and why. We have a few contested races coming up for example the District Clerk race we have one candidate that is married to the Chief District Attorney, has no experience in the District Clerk's office, just moved back to Grayson about 2yrs ago but yet she is being backed by the man in charge of the Republican Party, the District Attorney and most Judge's. Why? Could it be because of their own agenda's and what she can do for them? Then we have another candidate that has many years experience in the District Clerk's office, was the Chief for many years, is well respected, honest, not related to anyone in office and a hard worker that goes above and beyond to help the public. Why are the Republican's not backing her? Could it be she is not corrupt enough? As far as the County Judge race and your are a Democrat I would have to go with Middents because he is here to make best decisions for the people not for himself, he has proven that while serving as Justice of Peace #1. Folks we need to wake up and open our eyes to the corruption going on in OUR county. Let's make a difference by researching each candidate. Don't vote for someone because someone told you to or they have more political signs up in town or because the good ol'boys are supporting her or him. Vote for experience, who can best do the job for our people and stay away from those candidates being backed by good ol'boys (thats why we are in the shape we are today).
Think about it!

Jimmy : 1/5/2010
Jimmy - I have filed complaints?,tried to file complaints,(Requests for Investigations)with;
The FBI
The State Commission on Judicial Conduct(unethical, incompetent LIARS)
The Attorney Generals office
The US Dept. of Justice
The Grayson County District Attorney's office
Not one of these grooups have told me my complaints were unfounded, nor have any of them looked into what I am complaining about.
(Think about it, would I talk about the FBI and SCJC in this manner if I weren't telling the truth, I don't want anything to be hidden - like it has been).
The issue was best made clear to me the first time I spoke to the FBI in Dallas by telephone, when an FBI agent named Gene ? told me in an arrogant and asinine voice "Thats members of my profession you are talking about."
That is the real issue here - the fraternal bond between members of the Judiciary - even more so than a Republican or Democratic relationship, which is also at issue.
I'm not sure if a Democrat Judge would go to the lengths to retaliate against me that a Republican Judge has gone to in Sherman, like sending me into the Jury room with my attorney and then standing outside a partially open door and listening in on an Attorney-Client priveleged conversation, setting a trial as a "Priority" for four times. Hopefully she will make it an "I really mean it this time Priority" after the next time, appointing an attorney to "present me" and forcing me to pay him to "present me" thus ensuring I will have to go to trial unrepresented. Maybe she is getting kickbacks from the attorneys I have already paid who she is helping to steal money from me,by allowing them to withdraw and keep my money, I don't know.
Oh yeah - she also lied in a Court Order and said I wanted to represent myself - which would require me to want to be maliciously prosecuted, which I am being.
How many people want to be maliciously prosecuted so they can represent themselves in Court?
One attorney in Sherman told me that her husband(the presiding Judge at my trial) was the head of the Grayson County Republican Party, and that the Judge I Requested an Investigation of was a member of the same Party.
I believe that attorney was telling me the truth.
I know that I am not being allowed to get evidence into Court, the Prosecutor told me in an e-mail that none of my evidence would be admitted into court, and it hasn't, because the Judge and the Prosecutor have already decided this, even though the evidence is talked about in the police report.
The police department has destroyed evidence that will prove "Criminal Retaliation" has and is taking place, they told me so in a letter.
That "Criminal Retaliation" is found in the Texas Penal code 36.06 FYI.
Hope I have answered your question,in part, there is much more that I have not told here out of respect for peoples time, etc.

Conservative Independent : 1/5/2010
Between the conservative and independent comments, I have to laugh at both comments. The republicans are almost as bad as the democrats as far as corruption goes, and no, Bush did not do much at all with the time he was given. However, Obama is still a turn for the worse hands down! I am not a fan of either of these guys, but, while Bush may have not done much, he didn't bring our country down and he did keep us safe. I cannot say the same for our current administration. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Eric holder, etc, are not good people who care about you. Don't fool yourself. They only care about power and controlling you. They want to strip us of our basic constitutional rights such as the right to defend ourselves (2nd Amendment) while giving terrorists every known American right and privilege that they do NOT deserve (what's up with that??), put every business under government control (i.e. healthcare), spend us into endless debt, encourage dependency on the government, etc. I don't need to give Obama and his crew anymore time to see what they will do. They have already shown me what they will do if allowed and I am scared to death! I don't care what label your wear (democrat or republican), I just want good, freedom loving people in there who are not bent on turning us into a government-controlled, socialist nation. Laugh, but it is happening right before us!

Independent Tax Payer??? : 1/5/2010
The independent tax payer who says he is fed up sounds like someone who has no problem with the democrats tripling the deficit while criticizing Bush for spending too much and for passing nationalized health care in the dark of night (without reading the bill) while criticizing Bush for not being transparent enough. No, Mr. Independent tax payer, I'm the one who is fed up. And, yes, we will remember come election day. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

I have to laugh at your comments Mr. Conservative Tax Payer. Who was in control of Washington for the longest time ... Bush and the republicans. Did they do anything? No, they did nothing. They hurt is country big time. It is going to take awhile to clean up the mess and get us out of the sink hole that Bush and his followers put use in.
In regards to the local races. The republican officials are some of the most corrupt and unethical we have ever had.
I am not a fan of the current administration but I am at least willing to give them a chance... It has not even been a year.

Dont' Be Fooled Again : 1/4/2010
Let's just remember that many of the same old liberals criticizing local Republicans today brought us the changes we are suffering through in Washington. We bought into the idea that we needed change we could believe in, and look what it got us. Haven't we had enough democratic party change and especially when it comes in the form of democrats running for election pretending to be Republicans? Our local Republican officials have proven themselves to be tough on crime, against unnecessary government spending and for keeping government out of the social service business. That is why the howls from the liberals are so out of control. Don't let'em fool us again. Vote straight Republican for real time tested and proven Republicans.

Judge Middents was one of the most effective leaders that we have ever had in grayson county. The comment made by "2984" are just wrong and mean spirited ... get a life. Middents was very effective in lecturing my son on the need to stay in school and get an education.
My son went to college and has a good paying job. I give Judge Middents a great deal of credit.

A Republican
Just want to say thanks for so clearly demonstrating my point.
My post was about Criminal wrongdoing by elected officials - in this case, Republicans in Grayson County.
You seem to take this personally, for whatever reason, and call anyone who would criticize A Republican a moron.
You are saying that an elected official, who is a Republican, should be allowed to commit crimes in office, or use their office to commit crimes, and not be blamed for it.
How very Republican of you.
What is so funny to me is that the national government has pretty much shoved the whole health care reform package down the throats of the American people and the Republicans hate it - that the Democrats in power have used such a very REPUBLICAN tactic.(By the way - I hate the handling of the health care reform package too.)(Much more important issues need to be dealt with first - such as corrupt elected officials.)
"People like RDG need to shut their mouth if, as he says, he has never even voted. If you didn't vote then you have NO say in anything so be quiet!"
Does that mean if I don't grow food then I have no right to eat?
That statement is nearly exactly what the government of Iran is saying to the people who seek reform in Iran - before they go out and kill them.
Iran's government calls their main political thugs the Revolutionary Guard, their lesser political thugs(like yourself)basiji. (Maybe in Iranian, basiji translates to A Republican)
Saddam Hussein called his political thugs the Republican Guard. Coincidence, I think not.
Lastly, I consider myself
An American - who uses his own initials instead of cowering behind a pseudonym.
If you want to find out who I am, all you need to do is go ask the Grayson County District Attorney's office.
They have been giving out information protected by law and constitutional provision for quite some time now. They don't mind breaking the law if they feel it in their best interest.

Anyone who would vote for Middents for anything has serious issues. This was a man who put people in jail without having a case against them. Who dismissed a ticket and then got a $200. campaign contibution from the person whose ticket was dismissed. It's public record look it up.

don't blame the republicans? : 1/4/2010
Give me a break? Who has been in power in Grayson County for the last few elections... republicans, and look at the mess we are in. This jail issue was started with the republican right wingers. They have cost this county hundreds of thousands of tax payers dollars. The courthouse and the justice center has some of the most corrupt and hateful elected officials in office. Vote them out.

You better bring a sack lunch, a coat and an umbrella, because EVERYBODY is going to be there this year! McGowen's got my vote. And, a special thanks again to David Whitlock for the Luella support a few years back. We have not forgotten! As for District Clerk - No vote from me, down the line. Sure would be nice to see someone running that didn't have an axe to grind, could actually do the job, or doesn't have a relationship with someone the prosecutor's office, yes? I miss Cyndi - a lot of people do.

Republican hate : 1/3/2010
The comments made by the "republican" is so out of touch and off base. Sleaze and corruption is what the republicans have brought to this county. It is so bad that they are even fighting between themselves. How many differents splits are their locally in the party? Three or four. The republican party primary is going to be interesting becasue it will be "who will be the worst republican candidate", a corrupt commissioner or corrupt judge.
Come on Grayson County, we can do better.
We need good honest people to serve
vote them out
Dont Blame republicans : 1/3/2010
Why do you morons come on here trying to blame the republican party for everything? Do you think that democrats are what Grayson County needs?? If so, you'd better think again unless you want them to do to Grayson County what they are in the process of doing to American (taking it over and ruining it)! People like RDG need to shut their mouth if, as he says, he has never even voted. If you didn't vote then you have NO say in anything so be quiet! 2010 will hopefully be the year that Americans take their country back from these democratic dictators!!

Grayson County Politics : 1/3/2010
I know of 3 Judges in Grayson County, as well as the Grayson County District Attorney's office, who are guilty of CRIMINAL wrongdoing.
Grayson County has the most corrupt Judiciary I have ever seen,
with the possible exception of the Republican sleazebags in Austin, who cover up their crimes for them.
I am not a Democrat - I have never voted for either Party, nor any politician, in my life.
I just happened to get caught up in their CORRUPT political games - where the local Republican Party is covering up the Falsification of Court records, submitting false documents to the Courts, Racial Profiling, and also Criminal Conspiracy.
The list of CRIMINAL wrongdoing is quite lengthy.
Good old Republicans - good old CRIMINALS in Grayson County,Texas.

I was able to receive an unedited press release on the campaign Greg Middents for County Judge. Wow, if the current crop of candidates and current office holders did one forth of what Middents has done, this county would be in great shape.
We need that kind of leadership. My vote is for Middents.

Grayson County government is a mess. Those in power have no respect for the average citzen. Tim McGraw was suppose to bring in his business experience, Drue Bynum brought in his military experience. Both of these men have been horrible for Grayson County. And I have not said anything about some of the dumbest Commissioners on the face of the earth.
The party in power has been the republicans and we have had some of the worst elected officials elected in this county in the last 15 years.
All the above need to be voted out of office.
