Governor picks three for teacher fund's board

Texas Gov. Rick Perry named three new trustees to the Teacher Retirement System of Texas board, including a school counselor from Whitesboro.

Perry also made official that R. David Kelly, a trustee since 2007, will take over as chairman. Kelly will replace Linus Wright as chairman less than a year after Wright, a retired superintendent, took the helm. Wright said he was given no reason for the change.

Although no longer chairman, Wright will remain a trustee on the nine-member board until his term ends in 2011.

The new trustees, who will each serve a six-year term, are:

  • Nanette Sissney of Whitesboro, a school counselor for the Whitesboro Independent School District and member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association executive board.
  • Todd Barth of Houston, a real estate investor and a former appointee to the state board that manages the real estate portion of the Permanent School Fund;
  • Seth Crone of Beaumont, the vice president of business development for the Bank of New York Mellon Trust Co. NA;

Kelly and Barth are both members of the finance team for Perry's re-election effort.

The new trustees replace financial professionals Dory Wiley of Dallas and John Graham Jr. of Fredericksburg as well as Mark Henry, the superintendent of the Galena Park school district, whose terms expired in August.

TRS Fund Appointments : 10/25/2009
Perry has replaced the financial professionals on the board with political hacks. He wants the TRS money to fund projects he favors, and retired teachers are not among the projects he favors.

Wow! you mean that TRS still has funds...Look at the trickery they used to cover their losses in that last income statement...EL-BRoKe-O like MeXiCO!!:):):):) You can do that to teachers because accounting probably wasn't part of their major. MONEY STOLEN TEACHERS CAN NEVER RETIRE should be the story and the headline. "Assumption of future liability' or some 40 billion dollar entry in the old TRS record book. Hey did you read where Rickey Rick-Perry-O gave the entire ed-fund to my alma-mater A&M? Fifty million dollar pay off just to fire the top guy and hire his "buck-buddy". Perry is a crook the new appointees are new "hungry crooks."
