Grayson County cities celebrate Texoma Night Out

BY MARY JANE FARMER

HERALD DEMOCRAT

Texoma Night Out is being celebrated across Grayson County Saturday, with most of the county's town and law enforcement coming together in an effort to protect their communities.

On Saturday, a caravan of patrol cars from across the county will travel to each city hosting a block party. The Unity Caravan began more than 10 years ago and gives the communities a chance to speak and shake hands with officers.

Southmayd

Southmayd Police Chief Henry Gudenau is hosting Southmayd's Texoma Night Out between 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the S&S Elementary School, 4217 Elementarty Drive.

This promises to be an evening of fun for the whole family, Gudenau said. The Unity Caravan will arrive for a 30-minute visit between 6:30-7 p.m.

In addition, TNO in Southmayd will have a LifeStar helicopter, several police vehicles, a fire truck, and an ambulance to explore. There will be free food, prizes, and lots of fun; all that is requested is that anyone must be present to win any prize.

"Community awareness is the cornerstone of all crime prevention efforts. This makes Southmayd such a strong and vibrant city where people want to live, work and raise their family," Gudenau said.

Mayor Daniel Pepe, Fire Chief Gary Steward, officials from the Southmayd Police Department, the Southmayd Fire Department, Texas Vital Care Ambulance, and other government officials along with local sponsors will be there to provide valuable community information.

"See old friends and meet new people. Do not let crime dictate your life. Know your neighbors, elected officials, safety experts, community partners, and local law enforcement officers in a fun, relaxed setting. We will light up the barbecues while we ignite a new sense of confidence in our community where we take responsibility to look out for each another," Gudenau added.
