For the second time, Meals on Wheels of Texoma has been designated as the recipient of the 2009 fundraising effort by the Texoma Woodcarvers Guild.
Annually, the Woodcarvers carve a multi-piece Nativity scene. Raffle tickets will be sold this summer, and a drawing for the winner held at Sherman Arts Festival, Sept. 19. The pieces are currently being carved and prepared and are scheduled to be placed on display in the Sherman Public Library for the month of July, beginning July 2.
Other previous recipients of the proceeds include Home Hospice of Grayson County and CASA.
The Texoma Woodcarvers Guild meets at the Sherman Senior Center. A business meeting (with carving) is held on the second Tuesday of the month. On the last Tuesday a project meeting is held. One of the members presents a project with instructions on carving a different piece each month.
Recent pieces include a cowboy hat sitting on boots, a Celtic love spoon, and a stylized sandpiper. Additionally, the members meet on Friday mornings for a casual carving session. The evening meetings are from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. and the Friday meetings are from 8 -11 a.m. with optional lunch after. Guests are always welcome.
For further information about the Guild or raffle tickets, please contact Bruce Bowman, finance officer for Meals on Wheels of Texoma, at 903-786-3351.
