McKinney film producer wins award

McKINNEY -- "Hey Dillon," a film directed by Dean J. Augustin of McKinney, was honored with a Platinum Reel Award at the 2009 Nevada Film Festival in Las Vegas, Nev.

The festival hosts the state's annual celebration of American and international cinema, bringing together independent filmmakers, audiences, and film industry professionals.

"Hey Dillon" is a 72-minute documentary about Dallas radio personality Brett Dillon, a KHYI fixture for more than 13 years. The story centers on Dillon's battles with corporations, technology, and his inner demons. It was filmed in Dallas and McKinney, with several scenes being shot at the old McKinney Cotton Mill.

Augustine's other works have also won awards including the Golden Lion Award for Best Documentary at the 2004 George Lindsey UNA Film Festival, first place in the American Cinema Foundation Screenwriting Contest, and a Platinum Remi Award at WorldFest in Houston.

"Hey Dillon," sub-titled "The Last Great DJ," is available on DVD at Amazon.com, CreateSpace.com, or at the website heydillon.com.
