Congratulations Pottsboro High School graduates
On June 6th I attended my niece's graduation in Pottsboro. Graduating fifth in her class, I proudly watched her walk across the stage and head into the next chapter of her life as she graduated with honors in the class of 2009.
As I sat close to my sister Jewell, I saw her eyes tears up as she watched her middle child accept her diploma. I imagine my sister was picturing the progression of Sarah's life, as was I, with each step across the stage. The adorable five year old, blond-haired, blue-eyed little girl with a smile that would light up a room grew into a beautiful, intelligent young woman who has an amazing future ahead of her. I am a proud aunt.
As a 1995 graduate of Pottsboro, the school has been close to my heart, especially since all three of my nieces spent their grade school years there.
Seeing Pottsboro's graduating class particularly touched me because of the tragedy that has struck them during their high school years. Through laughter, triumphs, tragedies and happy endings, the class of 2009 has formed unbreakable bonds that will last a lifetime.
As I watched the ceremony, it reminded me of the journey we all go through during high school. The people and friends we meet in school help shape who we become throughout life. As the end of 13 years of education comes to a close, the future begins to look scary and daunting. But as you endeavor to continue in your chosen path you realize the endless possibilities.
I found a quote on the Web by an unknown author that I thought fit the occasion perfectly.
"There's a big world out there. Bigger than prom, bigger than high school, and it won't matter if you were the prom queen or the quarterback of the football team or the biggest nerd. Find out who you are and try not to be afraid of it."
Congratulations to all graduates in the class of 2009.
