Happy birthday Trenton Tribune
Tom Mc Holmes threw a party on Thursday, and a hundred or so of his friends showed up to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first edition of his newspaper, The Trenton Tribune.

The Tribune is one of those nowadays rare publications that started in one family -- the Holmes -- and remains there a century later. It was Tom Mc's grandfather, Dr. William Cox Holmes, and his father, Tom Hamilton Holmes, who co-published that first edition on Oct. 22, 1909. The Tribune has been coming out weekly ever since.

Tom Mc tells us in a front page story of this week's edition that he started working there as a printer's devil (apprentice) in 1945. Some years later, after military service and his marriage to Jo Nell Newby, the couple inherited the business and, with a little help along the way of their daughter Jill (now a teacher), it has remained a family affair. The Tribune story is thoroughly told in a special section of this week's edition, well worth scouting out.

Thursday's party was a great success, with state and local dignitaries attending and a presentation from the Trenton Economic Development Council of a beautiful plaque marking the anniversary. Tom Mc picked his guitar and sang a couple of songs, and sandwiches were served along with some of the best Italian cream anniversary cake ever devoured.
