Christmas lights at Thanksgiving
An early morning trip to the store brought an unexpected surprise this week. I saw the first set of Christmas lights of the season.

A house on North Travis featured a completely lighted carport. My first thought, I will admit, was a bit Scrooge inspired. I am sure it wasn't the nicest thing I have ever said about a light display and I drove past feeling a bit Grinchy.

Then, the good little angel that sits on my shoulder and tries, very hard sometimes, to get me to do the right thing and feel the right way, won over. Who am I to judge?

If that family wants to start their holiday the week after Halloween ... what's it to me? I should just be happy that they have Christmas spirit in the first place.

After all, that very day a boy scout troop from Tom Bean helped to put up the Grayson County Holiday Lights display at Loy Park and I am involved with that event every year. And, every year, we have to start early to get the lights up and going in time for their day after Thanksgiving debut.

Maybe the folks on North Travis decided they might need a few extra days to their display up and running as well. Or, maybe they decided that with all there is to be gloomy about this year, they were going to buck the trend and wear their Christmas spirit on their sleeve .... or carport.

I don't know who lives in that house, but I am in agreement if indeed that is their thought on the subject. Let Christmas come and let us all celebrate it to the max. I am not saying we should all go out and spend lots of money we don't have or drive our selves nuts with the commercial aspect of Christmas. I am simply saying we should welcome into our hearts the warmth and joy of the true meaning of Christmas, even if it is a bit early for some.
