Meet the Enemy -- Richardson Pearce
Last year Richardson Pearce knocked Sherman out of the playoffs in the first round. Is there a chance the Mustangs could take down the team to the north?
Pearce has an offense that could do the job but defensively it might only lead to a shootout. The Mustangs went 6-4 and finished fourth in District 10-4A. The victories are over Sachse, Richardson, R.L. Turner, Royse City, Rockwall and Greenville. The losses are all to playoff teams -- Denton Ryan, Highland Park, Rockwall-Heath and Newman Smith.
Among all Class 4A teams, Denison was sixth in scoring at a shade over 45 points per game. One of the teams in front of them was Richardson Pearce.
The Mustangs have scored fewer than 36 points just once and allowed at least 36 points four times. In three losses, Pearce gave up 64, 51 and 70 points. In their most recent game, a 70-56 loss to Newman Smith, the Mustangs allowed 458 rushing yards and 721 total yards.
Caleb Lewis has completed 173-of-252 passes for 2,618 yards and 26 touchdowns with 14 interceptions, although he didn't play in the final game. It didn't matter as back-up Mac Morse stepped in to complete 45-of-68 passes for 634 yards and four touchdowns. The yardage is the single-game state-record and sixth-best in the history of high school football. The back-up did that. And now he goes to bench with Lewis expected back in the lineup.
Blake Jumonville is the team's top receiver at 1,245 yards and seven touchdowns on 64 catches but Jake Allen and Josh Gold have at least 52 catches, 740 yards and seven touchdowns apiece. Jumonville had 386 yards and 18 catches last week -- his yardage was also a single-game state record.
The team's leading rusher is Corey Coleman, who has 681 yards and seven touchdowns on 87 carries while Gold has 486 yards and 12 touchdowns on 76 yards.
Senior kicker Michael Hunnicutt, who has six field goals, is ranked by Rivals.com as the 15th best kicker in the country for the class of 2010. Expect touchbacks. Lots of touchbacks.

I think the Jackets will be fine, if they dont get ahead and let up, like they did when we played Sherman. Hang in there Denison.
Lookin-out
Pearce Stadium : 11/12/2009
I have been to the Eagle-Mustang Stadium and for the someone who talked about what a great stadium, it really isn't anything to write home about. It is in the middle of a neighborhood and parking is bad. It would not be my pick of many I have visited in the N.Texas area. Clark Field, Plano, where Sherman plays is a great HS stadium with plenty of parking. Sherman fans, enjoy and bring a victory home to Grayson County. Here's hoping the Jackets do as well.

Huh?? : 11/12/2009
Berkner Ram is obviously not from Richardson. PEARCE actually shares it's stadium with Richardson High School. That's why it's called Eagle-Mustang Stadium. Now I don't know about concessions, but you obviously haven't parked there for a high school football game because they have to issue parking restrictions on where you can and where you can't park because it's in the middle of a neighborhood. They threaten to tow cars every game I've ever attended there.
The Real Facts
Say it out loud.. : 11/12/2009
When looking at Denison/Pearce, it should be simple if just saying it out loud. Denison and Pearce both have outstanding offensive attacks. That being said, then turn to the defenses. Denison's defense is much more solid. Therefore, it should seem easy to pick the winner here. So many are looking at the Pearce offense and asking, "Can Denison stop the Mustang offense?" Well, here is the answer. No!Probably not many can. Simple enough? Take a deep breath though, Jacket fans. I think the more important question is can Denison control the ball, the clock and score just about every time they have the ball? The answer there is yes, they should. Denison can't STOP Pearce's feared offense, but then again, they don't have to (and they aren't going to). Can Pearce stop our's?? The Jackets just have to stop the J.J.'s 3 or 4 times. Pearce's defense is supposedly is as bad as it's offense is good. If the Jacket's just score most times they have the ball, like they are totally capable of in this game and the defense can make a few stops, Denison should win. Like I say, both offenses are outstanding, but the Jacket D is much better. So, with that in mind (now comes the ugly part) can the J's make sure to stay out of their own way with fewer penalties and not turning the ball over? Denison did a great job of forcing turnovers and not giving the ball away last week and surprise, surprise....big win! Turnovers are huge momentum builders... and stoppers. The Jackets got the huge edge last week and it propelled them right into a lopsided win. Now, penalties still just amaze me. How good could this team be without like 12 or 13 of these a game? Here is a hint.....unbelievably good! I think this late in the year though, you are who you are and those aren't going to go away. So, this Friday if the Jackets can move the ball down the field methodically and get scores, control the clock and get a few stops on the 'Stangs, we should be okay. Penalties are the only thing that concern me, here

4 losses means nada : 11/12/2009
They scare me even with four losses. I think the Jackets still come out on top 56 to 34.

JJ Pierce : 11/12/2009
JJ Pierce has an awesome stadium that could serve as a model for the idea of Sherman / Denison sharing. They have shared for many, many years with other local high schools. It's big enough, has plenty of parking, and great concessions. And they share with rival Berkner !
Berkner Ram
Jackets will rise to the challenge : 11/11/2009
Pearce's offensive stats are impressive, but I think the key stat here is the four losses. Yes, their losses came to playoff teams but it tells me that when they meet up with a good team, they lose. On the other hand, if you look at the Jackets' season, high-powered offenses they run into have a way of underperforming. It's not a coincidence. I put it all into the Predict-o-tron 3000 and the result comes back Jackets 59, Pearce 31.
