Beautiful weather
September 15, 2008
It seems eerie to be basking in such beautiful
weather Monday when so many are suffering on this state's coast just a
few hundred miles away. Still, 35 people are taking refuge in a shelter
in Sherman, and they're now hearing it could be weeks before power is
restored to their area. Some don't know if they have homes left to go
home to. Most are resigned to the fact there's going to be water in
whatever is left of their homes.

The weather has definitely brought the squirrels out on the hunt for
winter provisions. A quick drive up and down Sherman's historic
Crockett Street on Monday found dodging the furry rodents quite
challenging. It seems when the squirrels go into this nut-finding mode,
they become oblivious to whatever else is going on around them. I can
tell you that a big Dodge truck will leave a mark on a squirrel if it
doesn't pay attention. No kidding, 10 different squirrels darted in
front of my truck on that two-mile round trip on Crockett. Where were
all those squirrels when my dad's family were looking for something to
eat back in the Great Depression?

And speaking of eating, if you were wondering, the new building
going up on the north side of Sherman's Town Center is a spankin' new
Taco Bell. Looks like Chipotle won't be the only burrito in town
(center).
