Name for Bonham's stadium? Found it

Here is a blast from the past. From the files of the Monday, Nov. 15, 1954 Sherman Democrat, I found this:

BONHAM — The Bonham High School athletic field has been named B.P. Weaks Memorial Stadium by action of the board of school trustees.

The action perpetuates the memory of the late B. P. Weaks who taught science for more than 40 years in Bonham High School before his retirement in 1952. He died last April 1.

The name had previously been selected by vote of the student body, after the trustees failed to vote a clear majority from a list of 19 names submitted for the field, which officially had never been named.

Last I heard, (and I've been finely attuned to stadium names for awhile,) Bonham played simply at Warrior Stadium. Hope some of you Bonhi long-timers (as opposed to old-timers, none of which include us) can enlighten us.

The current stadium was built before the current high school was built. I guess football was more important than education.

Yes I agree, the stadium on Main street was the Weaks stadium.

Thanks for the update. No doubt I'll find even more interesting items the further I go back.

The current stadium was built in the 70's when the high school was. I think the one in the article is on Main street north of the junior high campus.
