Lady Cats ready to hoop it up
With the volleyball season having ended for Sherman, it’s time for the Lady Cats to turn their attention to basketball.
The Lady Cats will open the 2009-10 season at home on Tuesday, Nov. 10
against Bonham. Right now, the only other scheduled home non-district
game will be on the Monday before Thanksgiving against Howe, but coach
Allan Pope has four open dates on the schedule.
Also on the docket are tournaments at Decatur and Allen as well as the
Sherman Holiday Invitational, whose brackets will be finalized in early
December. The Lady Cats will be trying to end a two-year drought after
winning the first four Sherman Holiday Invitational championships.
Scrimmages begin for Sherman on Saturday morning at McKinney Boyd and continue next Tuesday at Howe.
Pope's Lady Cats closed strong last season, winning four of their final
six to finish tied for fourth place in District 9-4A, missing the
playoffs on a tiebreaker.
The Lady Cats, who finished 14-17 in 2008-09, must find a replacement
for graduated leading scorer Alicia Peterson, who averaged 24.3 points
per game and is now a freshman at the University of Texas, readying for
the spring track season.
