LIVE BLOG -- Sherman at Frisco Liberty
Woo-hoo! I finally have a piece of equipment I need to live blog, so
here we are.
We're about five minutes from kickoff. More Liberty band members than
other Liberty fans in the house right now. Decent crowd on the
visitors' side.
Good start for the Bearcats' defense. They force a three-and-out on the
opening series and get very good field position at the Liberty 43-yard
line. Six plays later, J.J. Floyd scores on a 2-yard run, and it's 7-0
with 8:33 remaining in the first quarter.
Liberty on the move, but Sherman stiffens at the 25 and Redhawks kicker
Connor Hirt misses a 42-yard field goal try. Madison Carter immediately
hits Nathan James for 56 yards, and four plays after that, Carter keeps
from the 11 to make it 14-0 with 13 seconds left in the quarter.
Eric Hosek ate his Wheaties today. He's placed two of three kickoff so far into the end zone, the first one eight yards deep.
End of the first quarter with Sherman on top, 14-0.
Here come the Redhawks. They get to the Sherman 15, but up steps Greg
Jackson with an interception in the end zone. Sherman takes over on the
20.
The Bearcats and Redhawks exchange three-and-outs, and Sherman gets it
back at the 26. On the first play from scrimmage, Zac Whitfield takes
it the distance for a 21-0 lead at the 6:11 mark of the second frame.
It's the fourth game in a row, and six of eight games, that SHS has scored on a one-play drive.
The Bearcats force another punt and come right back for another TD,
this time on Whitfield's 2-yard run to make it 28-0. The Cats are the
better team tonight.
And to add insult, Charles Leslie recovers a fumbled snap, and on the
very next play, James throws a halfback pass to Geoff Hooker for a
40-yard TD for a 35-0 lead with 1:01 to go before halftime.
The Cats end the half by throwing Liberty running back Jay Ajayi for a
16-yard loss. It's band time.
At the half the Cats have 138 rushing yards and 138 passing yards. Talk
about balance. Whitfield has 106 rushing yards on eight carries.
Liberty has 102 total yards, 83 on the ground.
Word from here in Frisco is, across town at the Hut, Frisco High is
beating Wakeland. If that score holds up, Sherman would clinch a
playoff berth tonight.
More of the same for Sherman in the second half. Carter throws to Dylon
Beamesderfer for a TD, then Thor Long takes over and directs a drive
capped by Floyd's second TD run. In between Liberty finally scores on a
Jay Ajayi run. It's 48-7 with 2:00 left in the third.
Not much else going on until late in the game, when Liberty mounted a
99-yard drive for a score. Pereese Joas capped it with a 4-yard drive
with 2:30 to go, making it 48-14. Long pinned the Redhawks on their own
1 with a punt.
It's over. Final score 48-14.
