This will be a great weekend in Texoma to get out and enjoy some entertainment and give to some charitable organizations. There will be a gospel convention in Denison and 5K runs in Sherman and Bonham. Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge will be putting on its monthly children’s event on Saturday, and this weekend there will also be an event benefiting Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Ricky Wheeler. Here are five events to fill this pre-Thanksgiving weekend.
1. Christian youth fest
Mimicking the Arkansas youth festival, the Texas Youth Fest 2017 hopes to bring 1,000 young people to Texoma to enjoy Christian music and comedians. The festival begins at 6 p.m. Friday and the two-day event will wrap up at 3 p.m. Saturday. Both days’ events will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn’s Texoma Event Center, 5015 U.S. Highway 75 South, Denison. Tickets are $20. For more information, visit www.texasyouthfest.com.
2. Turkey Run

The Turkey Trot 5K and Fun Run will be held from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday starting at the Sherman Municipal Building Lawn, 220 W. Mulberry, Sherman. This is the second year for this event and all proceeds will be given to True Options so it can continue providing free pregnancy tests, STD tests and treatment, limited obstetric ultrasounds, counseling, and resources for women and men living in Texoma. If you beat the dressed up turkey in True Option’s one-mile family-fun run, you may win a special prize.
