If you ask Texoma, yeasted flatbread never tasted as good as it does at the three Best of Texoma Best Pizza category winners: Pizza Hut, with locations in Sherman, Denison and Van Alstyne; Palio’s Pizza Café in Sherman; and the Italian Affair, also in Sherman. And all three restaurants offer up fare unique unto themselves.
That famous flatbread, also known as pizza crust, can be thick or thin; small, medium or large in diameter; and served up with a variety of meats, vegetables, cheeses and sauces. With so much variety in pizza, just how do you figure out exactly what will gratify your appetite?
The choices are not made scientifically — it’s the human factor that kicks in, according to the restaurants’ management.
The Pizza Huts serve several types of pizzas, but also wings, pastas, desserts and a variety of side orders. Manager Lindsey Porter said that most often people have their favorites, from previous visits, but “sometimes they ask us what our personal favorites are, and they’ll go with that, or with a classic specialty pizza we offer.”
Italian Affair’s Erick Alvarado said that, “When people ask for help (in deciding what type of pizza to order), we just tell them that this is not the usual pizza for this area, but instead it’s New York style pizza.”
Slices of that pizza are served up from a pizza buffet, but also served whole if requested. Their menu also offers other popular gourmet items.
Palio’s Pizza Café also has a steady stream of repeat customers. Jorge Perez said that people come back because “they know what they like. And the new customers ask us ‘What’s your favorite?’ We have everything for everybody.”
He proudly holds up the menu, calls out the options listed, so new customers know they have options, and those include other-than-pizza entrees such as pastas, calzones, children’s items and lots more.
