PROSPER — Chateau Montclair was once the estate of Deion Sanders former NFL cornerback and now Hall of Famer. The previously 112-acre property has been parceled out into multiple subdivisions. The Montclair subdivision consists of 25 lots with Sanders’ former residence being the largest, now sitting on 6 acres.
The grand home is still reminiscent of its previous owner with the No. 21 — his jersey number while with the Cowboys — ensconced in the floor of the indoor basketball court. The home is located at 1400 Copper Point Drive in Prosper directly behind the first Kroger Marketplace along U.S. Highway 289. The 29,000-square-foot estate is currently listed at $14.5 million by David Gloria with Ebby Halliday Realtors in Allen.
Spiraling columns and a circular dome greet visitors at the entrance to Chateau Montclair. Heavy, ornate front doors lead into a foyer decorated in black and gold. Two spiral staircases climb either side of the room adding to the round features of the home.
Gloria explained that the gold touches throughout the house are comprised of real gold flakes and gold leafing.
“As you look through the house you’ll see intricate paints,” Gloria said. “Everything in here is hand painted. Nothing in here is wallpaper or anything like that. There’s a lot of gold leaf and gold flakes. It really is quite ornate; it’s not your average home.”
Floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto the grounds and flood the room with light. The marble and travertine floors throughout the home are heated. One of six fireplaces rests in a seating area near the windows.
The north wing of the home plays host to the master suite, office and what was once a media room. The focal point of the spacious master suite is the large round bed surrounded by steps and columns. The bedroom also includes a fireplace, terraced ceiling and video projector with screen.
The master bedroom leads onto the enormous master bath decorated in black marble with its own chandelier. The space contains his and hers facilities, walk-through shower, Jacuzzi tub, fireplace and kitchenette. One of the two walk-in closets is two stories tall and nearly 3,000 square feet. A private garage connects to the master to create complete privacy for the wing.
The south wing of the home envelopes the entertainment portion of the estate. A dining room leads off the foyer and onto the kitchen and large living area. A chef’s paradise, the kitchen has three sets of ovens, two refrigerators, and ample counter space.
A laundry room adjacent to the kitchen also contains a dog-washing area. The living space on the south side of the home has two fireplaces and connects to the entertainment room. A theater room with plush seats and large screen also features a stage for live performances.
Beyond that, a game room has a two-lane bowling setup, pool table and kitchenette for entertaining. The bowling alley, complete with computer and ball return, comes alive at night with a black-light feature.
Past the entertainment section, a clear area of the home is set aside for athletics. An indoor basketball court with wood floors and complete sound system connects to an exercise room adorned with turf-style carpeting.
The exercise room also contains a sauna and stairs that lead up to a private apartment. The private, one-bedroom apartment is used for the full-time staff member who resides at the property to help with upkeep and maintenance.
The east side of the room leads onto a barber shop complete with traditional spinning barber pole sign, chairs and wash station. Adjacent, lies a yoga room with floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto the 10-acre lake. An indoor pool and spa are enclosed within a natatorium. A locker room rounds out the exercise section of the home.
An elevator is located in the south living area for those that do not wish to take the stairs to the second story. The second floor contains the majority of the 9 bedrooms, all of which are complete suites with on-suite bathrooms and large walk-in closets. Each room has a different theme and is decorated with a different style. One of the bedrooms was designed as a nursery and has a large dome in the center of the ceiling painted as a bright blue sky.
The outdoor pool area is comprised of a wading pool and diving pool side by side. Two cabanas with outdoor beds are arranged on either side of the pool with decorative landscaping throughout. A large outdoor kitchen and bathroom is located on the north side of the area.
Past the pool, an outdoor basketball court, beach volleyball court, and in-ground trampoline occupy the land between the home and the lake. The property also contains garage parking for 12 cars with an additional oversized bus garage and boat/RV garage.
When Sanders resided at the estate, a football field was also on the property. Since then, the goals have been donated to Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano.
Gloria explained that Prosper is no longer the town it once was. The development occurring in Prosper has made it a great place to live with many amenities.
“I think the key thing is that development is going on here,” Gloria said. “A lot is happening. This is not the boondocks anymore. It’s a private, gated community with new homes starting in the next 3o days.”
