Melissa resident crowned Mrs. Texas A resident of Melissa will represent Texas in the Mrs. American Pageant Sept. 8.

Mrs. DFW Melissa Pocza was crowned Mrs. Texas America this past Saturday at the Carroll Theatre in Southlake. Out of 33 competitors, Pocza was also awarded best in the evening gown and best in the fitness portion of the competition.

Pocza is involved with many local organizations, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America, the Boys and Girls Club, Melissa ISD, the Special Olympics and the AKC. "I feel there's no better way to give back than to give back in your own neighborhood and state," she said. "It's important for me to volunteer locally because not only can you see a difference, but my son and children around me can witness and see that it only takes one person to make a difference."

An account executive at Royal Case Company in Sherman, Pocza is also a North Texas Realtor and was a substitute teacher at Melissa ISD. "I'm extremely privileged to represent the state of Texas," she said. "There were so many beautiful, successful women who ran for the title, it's just such an honor the judges selected me."

Pocza's parents, Gail and Mike Von OverBeke and Phyllis and Terry Skipworth, are Sherman residents, as are her husband's parents, Zoltan and Nong Pocza. She and her husband, Zoli, have an 8 month old son, Zoltan Michal III.
