Why should administration bother with $250 payment

<p>I am a senior drawing Social Security. We have been told we will not get a living adjustment in 2010, and I have no quarrel with that. Now I understand our president feels sorry for us old folks so he is going to give us $250 in lump payment to soften the blow.
</p>

<p>A lump payment of $250 is worthless in today's economy on an individual basis. Most seniors will put it in the bank and that will be the end of it.
</p>

<p>Consider this. There are over 35 million people in the United States receiving Social Security. At $250 per person that will amount to $8.75 billion that our tax payers are going to have to come up with. It seems to me there are much better things this money could be used for.
</p>

<p>Decreasing the budget deficit would be a good place to start.
</p>
