Why should administration bother with $250 payment
I am a senior drawing Social Security. We have been told we will not get a living adjustment in 2010, and I have no quarrel with that. Now I understand our president feels sorry for us old folks so he is going to give us $250 in lump payment to soften the blow.
A lump payment of $250 is worthless in today's economy on an individual basis. Most seniors will put it in the bank and that will be the end of it.
Consider this. There are over 35 million people in the United States receiving Social Security. At $250 per person that will amount to $8.75 billion that our tax payers are going to have to come up with. It seems to me there are much better things this money could be used for.
Decreasing the budget deficit would be a good place to start.
