After weeks of waiting, the Grayson County Health Department will provide injectable H1N1 vaccines from 5-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
The vaccines will be free, but only available to the following target groups: pregnant women, people who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months, health-care personnel and emergency services personnel who have direct contact with patients or infectious material, six-month to four-year-old children and five- to 18-year-old adolescents with medical conditions that put them at higher risk for complications.
Dr. Kevin Stacks, GCHD medical director, said these conditions include: chronic pulmonary (asthma), cardiovascular (except hypertension), renal, hepatic, cognitive, neurological/neuromusular, hematological or metabolic disorders (including diabetes mellitus) and immunosuppression (including that caused by medications or HIV).
The vaccines will be administered at both department location: 515 North Walnut in Sherman and 205 N. Houston Ave. in Denison.
Department officials said the current round of vaccines are only available in a limited supply and will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, but as more vaccines become available additional sites will be announced.
