Why tolerate what's wrong? My husband witnessed an inspiring scene in a Van Alstyne restaurant a few weeks ago. He said a young man entered a fast food restaurant wearing a T-shirt displaying offensive language.

Another young man, a few years older than the first, took offense to the language on the shirt. He said his young children were in the restaurant with him and they can read. He added that he doesn't want his children exposed to the offensive language displayed on the T-shirt in question, and he didn't feel it was right for someone to be wearing such a T-shirt in a restaurant where families are.

The young man wouldn't leave, so the parent helped him out the door. One of the young man's companions said, "I told him not to wear that shirt."

My husband said, when the parent returned inside the restaurant, he was greeted by applause and cheers from the other patrons.

I find that I'm offended when I hear offensive language in public, but I always just duck my head and pretend I didn't hear it. I think the parent in the Van Alstyne restaurant has reminded me that I have rights, too, and one of those is not having to put up with offensive behavior or language.

I hope the next time I'm exposed to this, I'll be brave enough to speak up. Especially if there are children who are also being exposed.

I don't know that man's name, but his actions have taught me a lesson.
