VAN ALSTYNE -- Larry Adams and his wife, owners of Adams Towing in Van Alstyne, are offering a unique service through the Thanksgiving weekend in hopes that they might be able to save a life or two.

Anyone who feels like he has had too much to drink, and has no one to call to drive him, is encouraged to call Adams Towing. Adams said he has drivers standing by, ready to tow the caller's vehicle home, with the driver riding along inside the tow truck cab. He's not going to be charging for these tows.

This is being offered essentially within about a 10-mile radius from Van Alstyne, and that includes Howe, Gunter, Anna, and even Sherman, as well as Van Alstyne.

"Sure, I've got a business to run, and part of that business has been because of DWI arrests and bad wrecks over the years," Adams said. "This is a chance to give back to the community. I hope people will take advantage of it, and call us before driving while drinking. "

Should the venture prove successful, Adams said they plan to offer the service again over Christmas and then New Year's Eve. "If this proves to be a good solution for saving lives and property, it could go on into the future." Adams said he's concerned about the lives of those who might drink and drive, but also for the lives of other innocent drivers on the road.

He added that so many people have had bad experiences with tow trucks who have had to move their vehicles into impound yards, and maybe this can help boost the image of the tow truck business in the public eye.
