2009 Wish List introduction

BY KATHY WILLIAMS

HERALD DEMOCRAT

This Thanksgiving Day, families across the country -- and some far from home -- will hold hands and give thanks for blessings big and small that have come our way this year.

At the top of the Herald Democrat's list is the generosity our readers have shown for more than 15 years to the non-profit agencies whose Christmas Wish Lists we publish. With a poor economy and high rates of unemployment, there may be more wishes and fewer folks able to fill them this year. But we are confident that our readers will dig deeply and help the agencies that bless our community day after day throughout the year.

We invite every not-for-profit group in our readership area to submit a Wish List to us. You can mail them, fax them or e-mail them. Please put "Wish List" on the envelope or on the subject line of the e-mail or fax. Santa's helpers need a clue, and surely are happy with e-mail. Deadline for submission is Dec. 16, but don't be late. We will print as many as possible, space and time permitting.

Please include your wishes and a brief description of the services you offer, and how our Santas may reach you to grant your wishes. Please also include a contact name and telephone number for our elves in case we have questions.

And remember, the best gift for most agencies throughout the year is the gift of your time and talents as a volunteer. So find an agency with a mission that matches your passion and pitch in.

We wish you the happiest of holidays and that the spirit of giving remains strong during 2010.
